Mr. Joel S. Marcus J.D. CPA., serves as Executive Chairman of the Board of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. Mr. Marcus is the fulltime Executive Chairman and a Founder of the Company. Prior to April 2018, Mr. Marcus served as the Companys Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President. Mr. Marcus cofounded the Company in 1994 as a garage startup with 19 million in Series A capital stock and led its growth into an SP 500 company with a total market capitalization of approximately 18.4 billion as of December 31, 2018, and significant market presence in key locations, including Greater Boston, San Francisco, New York City, San Diego, Seattle, Maryland, and Research Triangle. The Company, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in January 2019, is the only publicly traded pureplay officelaboratory REIT. In 1996, Mr. Marcus founded the companys strategic VC arm, Alexandria Venture Investments, to provide strategic VC to innovative life science and technology entities developing breakthrough therapies and technologies since 2021.
