Joseph Holsten - Covanta Holding Independent Director

Mr. Joseph M. Holsten is an Independent Director of the Company. Mr. Holsten has served as a director since May 2009. Mr. Holsten is Chair of the Supply Chain and Public Policy Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee. Since November 2011, Mr. Holsten was Chairman of the Board of LKQ Corporation, the largest provider in the U.S. of aftermarket, recycled and refurbished collision replacement parts and accessories, and a leading provider of new automotive aftermarket products in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Benelux countries, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and several other Central European states. He was a member of the Board of Directors of LKQ since February 1999. Mr. Holsten was the President and Chief Executive Officer of LKQ from November 1998 until January 2011 when he became CoChief Executive Officer as part of his transition to retirement. He retired from his position of CoChief Executive Officer in January 2012. Prior to joining LKQ, Mr. Holsten held various positions of increasing responsibility with the North American and International operations of Waste Management, Inc. for approximately 17 years. From February 1997 until July 1998, Mr. Holsten served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Waste Management, Inc. From July 1995 until February 1997, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Waste Management International, plc. Mr. Holsten also serves as a Director to Mekonomen, a public company in Stockholm that sells and distributes new automotive after market products in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and Finland since 2009.
