Mr. Walter A. Dods, Jr. is Independent Director of the Company. He has served as a member of our Board of Directors since June 2015. Mr. Dods was Chairman of the Board of First Hawaiian Bank from January 2005 until his retirement in December 2008. Mr. Dods has served as Chairman of the Board of Matson, Inc., a leading provider of ocean transportation and logistics services, a position he held from January 2010 until his retirement in April 2017, and as a director of Matson, Inc. from 1989 until 2017. He also currently serves on the boards of First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaiian Telcom, Pacific Guardian Life, Pohaku Paa, and Servco Pacific Inc. Additionally, Mr. Dods serves on several civic and community boards throughout the State of Hawaii, including Chaminade University of Honolulu. Mr. Dods was a shareholder of Kokooha Investments, Inc., which is now known as Par Hawaii, Inc., and the Chairman of the Boards of each of Kokooha and Mid Pac Petroleum, LLC, a whollyowned subsidiary of Kokooha, until our acquisition of Kokooha in April 2015. In 2004, Mr. Dods was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, with Gold and Silver Star, an imperial honor from the Government of Japan. Mr. Dods received a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii. Mr. Dods deep knowledge of the Hawaiian markets where we operate, ocean transportation and logistics, and the assets we acquired from Kokooha and Mid Pac Petroleum provide the Board with experience and insight into the operation, development, and growth of our businesses. Further, his experience as a chairman or member of publicly held Company boards of directors provides the Board with knowledge of governance and other related matters. since 2015.
