Mr. Michael A. Stein is an Independent Director of Apartment Investment and Management Company. Mr. Stein was first elected as a Director of the Company in October 2004 and is currently the Chairman of the Audit Committee. Mr. Stein is also a member of the Compensation and Human Resources, Nominating and Corporationrationrate Governance, and Redevelopment and Construction Committees. From January 2001 until its acquisition by Eli Lilly in January 2007, Mr. Stein served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of ICOS Corporationrationration, a biotechnology company based in Bothell, Washington. From October 1998 to September 2000, Mr. Stein was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nordstrom, Inc. From 1989 to September 1998, Mr. Stein served in various capacities with Marriott International, Inc., including Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1993 to 1998. Mr. Stein serves on the Board of Directors of InvenTrust Properties Corporationration, an openair shopping center REIT headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois. He also serves on the InvenTrust audit and nominating and corporate governance committees. Mr. Stein previously served on the Boards of Directors of Nautilus, Inc., Getty Images, Inc., and Providence Health Services. As the former audit committee chairman or audit committee member of two NYSElisted companies, the former chief financial officer of two NYSElisted companies, and having served in various capacities with Arthur Andersen from 1971 to 1989, including as a partner from 1981 to 1989, Mr. Stein brings particular expertise to the Board in the areas of corporate and real estate finance, and accounting and auditing for large and complex business operations. since 2004.
