Mr. Jose Antonio Alvarez Alvarez serves as Director of Banco Santander S.A. since September 2009. He holds a bachelors degree in administration and business economics from Universidad Santiago de Compostela in Spain and an MBA from the University of Chicagos Graduate School of Business. Mr. lvarez became chief executive officer of Santander Group on January 1, 2015 and executive vice chairman on January 15, 2019. Previously, he served as Santander Spains chief financial officer from 2004 to 2015 and as the head of the Finance Division from 2002 to 2004. Before joining Santander Group, Mr. lvarez was head of the Finance Division of BBVA and Argentaria . Previously, he served as chief financial officer for Banco Hipotecario de Espaa, vice president of Finanpostal Gestin Fondos de Inversin y Pensiones, and in roles at Banco de Crdito Industrial and Instituto Nacional de Industria. Mr. lvarez has served as a member of the board of directors of Santander Consumer Finance S.A, Santander Consumer Bank AG and Banco de Crdito Local S.A., among others, and on the supervisory boards of several of Santander Groups autonomous subsidiaries in Poland, Germany and the United States. He was the chairman of the European Banking Federation Banking Supervision Committee from 2009 to 2012. Mr. lvarez is currently a member of the board of directors of SAM Investments Holdings Limited and was a member of our board of directors since 2009. since 2009.
